This past weekend our players represented Barrie with class and
professionalism. For our competitors who thought we are the hicks from the
sticks we proved them wrong.
Coach Naim and Jon prepared these young athletes for the competition
and the players took that knowledge to the field. This tournament was an
excellent tool for the team, it gives the coaches and players some idea on
what areas must be worked on prior to the beginning of the regular season.
Social activities off the field were just as important, it gave all players a
chance to build trust and establish friendships.
Yes we would all loved to have played on Sunday in the playoff games but
that did not happen and we built a bridge and got over it. This experience
will be remembered in future years to come, players might not remember
playing the first game and winning by default but the girls will remember
the swimming, pyramid building, East Side Marios, and Naim losing his
lighter on the soccer pitch. This experience will build character and I hope
all players, parents and coaches have enjoyed themselves.
As for this being my first year as manager of this team, I have never
witnessed players who have so much enthusiasm as these ladies. They
enjoy each others company, they include all members of the team and I
know they would protect each other on and off the field.
Thank you ladies for making this a memorable event.
What a weekend for the Barrie U15 Girls! Not only did they capture a Silver Medal at Barrie Spiritfest, they showed everyone the guts that are required to compete at a high level. Saturday's scoring onslaught was great to watch. Rest assured that although coach Naim's finger nails did suffer on Sunday his toe nails remain intact.
Now back to work, focus at the Tuesday practice at let's be ready to play at a high level on Thursday!
