The team staff has had a few days to reflect upon last Thursdays 2:1 loss to Oshawa, the game is history.
All of the players are reminded that the coaching staff has the utmost respect for them as people & players.
As human beings we confess that at times temporary frustration does cloud matters. Be aware that we
are committed to improving individuals as players and the group as a team for the long term. We believe
that the team does not comprehend what they are capable of and what they should aspire to! We have been told that the
parents are happy that the team competes in every game, we ask for a little more. The coaching staff asks for a very
simple commitment from each player, give the best soccer that you can every practise & game. Our pre season statement
that "our interest lies in quality soccer remains intact. Our occasional frustration lies in the fact that at times the group does
not appear to believe in their ability to deliver quality soccer and effort against all opponents. The coaching staff is
committed to reminding you that you are good players (who can get better) with great potential as a team.

The Barrie Spirit U15 Girls first league game of the season demonstrated the type of team spirit that they will require to be successful this season.
The team earned a 2-0 victory against a hard working (but often offside) Aurora team.
While improvement will be an ongoing process the girls showed much of what the group has worked on in practice.
Key points were improving ball distribution into space, strong defensive play and a very strong work ethic.
Next game is away against Pickering, let's continue the momentum and remember don't ever be satisfied!
Barrie played a very strong Pickering team to a 1-1 tie Thursday evening. Challenged by strong attacking runs coupled with excellent through balls by Pickering, Barrie's defence rose to the challenge. At the conclusion of the game the comments of the opposing coaching staff clearly indicated that they felt Barrie U15 Girls are no pushover. Great work by all!"
In spite of a lacklustre effort, the Barrie U15 Girls came away with a 0:0 tie versus the East York team. E. York, showed flashes of the skill & form that you need in that league.
In the second half Barrie showed little interest in competing, especially with regard to winning 50/50 balls. This allowed East York an opportunity to play their game.
The play of Kamiya in central defence & Lauren in goal, specifically her willingness to leave the net to retrieve through balls, saved us.
This game is a lesson to all of us that if we do not show up willing to work hard for a full game then all of the technical and tactical work that we do in practice become meaningless.
Sunday evenings game against Richmond Hills was a "Tale of Two Halves".
The first half continued last Thursday's poor effort. Despite our reminders that the team needed a strong effort to get back on track they started very slowly on Sunday. As a result Richmond Hill, a winless team thus far, were gifted a 2:0 lead by the half.
The second half, well that's a different story! After realising what they were up against the girls poured it on. Strong use of the flanks, pressure in the opposing half and competing for the ball were in ample supply. That was good stuff. Despite the loss, Naim and I are confident that the girls will bring their "A game" against a very strong Woodbridge team this Thursday.
The Barrie Spirit U15 girls had a strong game on Thursday night defeating a good Woodbridge team 3:1. Scoring three goals against a Premier Division team is a step in the right direction for this group!
A strong work ethic, a willingness to compete for most 50:50 balls and implementing the coaches' tactics paid off.
It has become clear to the Team Staff that this level of effort and physical commitment is a necessity for this team to be competitive, game in and game out.
We will be put to the test again this weekend in the Ontario Cup against 2 OYSL teams as well as another Premier Division team.
The Barrie U15 girls played well against a strong Newmarket team for the first 25 minutes of the game. What happened after that point is anyone's guess but from a coaching perspective we were disappointed in the level of mental and physical commitment. Enough said.
As a group there were many issues, however there are some players that stood out with their energy & play. Brenna, Courtney Mac, Kamiya, Emily S. Ashley great effort!
Up next is Markham, another good team. We expect nothing less than a full effort for the duration of the game.
Cortney M
Barrie U15 Girls game versus Markham fulls under the category of "if only the game lasted 10 minutes longer". After a poor first half involving some bad luck Barrie found themselves on the wrong end of a 1:0 score. The second half was a different story. A strong effort by all resulted in a 2:1 final score for Markham that, given more time, could easily have been a tie."
What will it take for the Barrie Spirit U15 girls to play two good games in a row? A lacklustre effort had them in front of a weak Unionville team 2:0 and we coughed up the lead to tie 2:2 (thanks Lauren). The team staff is very disappointed in our inability to take advantage of these opportunities, even worse than the result is how we played the game.
Very little physical & mental commitment was in evidence. Emily B. played with a potentially broken face, Kamiya M. was at less than 100% but who was willing to pick-up the slack? Start asking yourselves questions about passion & commitment and be ready. This level of effort does not meet the expectations of the team staff at all"
Cortney M.
First my apologies for being behind with the game reports.
Game against Aurora, although not vintage Barrie U15 Girls, did provide a valuable point in the standings.
Brenna , Claire
Courtney, Cortney
The last two games (DOMINATING league game against Pickering & overtime loss in cup game against Markham) were two of the better team efforts of the season. The physical & mental commitment to both games was clear to the team staff as well as the parents/supporters.Once again the individuals that the comprise the team need to continue to believe in their capabilities!
The team is approaching mid season form, let's build on the effort of the last two games and bring it to the game this Thursday.
The look on the faces of Barrie spirit players were of shell shock 5 minutes into the game. Richmond Hill dominated the game. The reason, I think they wanted the win more, being so low in the standings. Going into the second half, two goals down, Courtney P. scored a goal, challenging the keeper only to be carried off the field with a badly bruised thigh. Richmond Hill scored another goal in the second half totally demoralizing Barrie.
The first half went scoreless with both teams fighting for possession, although Oshawa won possession of almost all the goal kicks and throw-ins. This being reversed, would have changed the whole game entirely (in our favor). After Oshawa scored in the second half we began to play like a “TEAM”.
Let’s pretend we are down 1-0 at the beginning of every game.
On Thursday night, our team had our emotions go from victorious glory to the sad reality of an equalizing goal, then back to victorious glory.( Girls, This is not good for the Old Ticker. )
Dominating control of the first half, Barrie had many scoring opportunities with no goals scored, but maintained pressure on the East York defense.
East York came back strong in second half only to be knocked down a notch when Courtney P. sent the ball home, giving us a 1-0 lead. East York quickly returned the favor, making it 1-1.
With only 15 min to go Brenna B. made a run up the right wing, crossed the ball into the goal mouth, which was deflected off an East York defender and into the net. The fans erupted.
CONGRATULATIONS GIRLS. All your hard work and your coach’s decision to play this team less defensively, paid off giving us the much needed 3 points.

Okay, I know I missed a game report, Barrie 3, Woodbridge 3. great effort against a good team.
This game report could be titled "a lesson to be learned by all" (including as coaches).
Well here the Barrie U15 Girls were, 4:2 down with 12 minutes to go and what happens? They score 3 goals in 12 minutes to beat a Newmarket team that had never lost a game to Barrie!
Hey what do you think the Newmarket coaches were discussing with their team for 15 minutes after the game? Probably something to do with this weekend's bake sale. Sucks to be them.
On a more serious note, what an effort by every Barrie player. Once again you demonstrated what a little heart (also called "never give up") can do. The Newmarket defence had no answer for the speed up front coupled with ball distribution from the mid field. Despite the 4 goals our defence was solid (one lousy penalty kick call + one blown call on a throw in = 2 goals for the ref) and Lauren played her usual spectacular game. Great job by all!
Now we must bring this level of focus & commitment against Markham & Unionville in our last two league games.
Cortney M.
The Barrie Spirit U15 Girls played the top ranked Markham team to a well deserved 1:1 tie Thursday night. Scoring opportunities were plentiful for both teams and outstanding goal keeping kept the score level. The Barrie girls once again showed what a strong work ethic can achieve against a 2006 OYSL team that demonstrated excellent ball movement.
Let's all keep our fingers crossed for the Brookster who hit the ground hard and left the field to go to the hospital.Next game is Unionville, let's remember they are at our field now and we will play them hard. By the way a win Tuesday and our record is 6/6/6 (this is not usually considered a "good" number).
